Richard (Rick)'s Story

Life Life's road had directed me to the place I am at now. I finally decided to clean out my old, dusty, dark closet. Man, do I feel great! My career, if you can call it one, has treated me well. I have been a part of the Anheuser-Busch family for the past 29 years and still going strong. I was lucky enough to work in various departments and have met lots of great folks. It all began in 1980 in Newark, NJ near the airport. There were lots of nice people and also a few jerks along the way. I was offered a transfer to Georgia in late 1994, which I gladly accepted. Fourteen years later, (2009) I am still employed with AB and working in the store room/ receiving department. Now the company is owned by a European conglomerate called Inbev. The new name of our company is called Anheuser Busch InBev. Lots of changes took place and many cost reductions. Luckily, we are unionized and for now, we are protected until 2014. After that, hold on to your pants! Getting back to my story, after getting through the culture shock of the south, (Georgia) I adjusted to my new life with each passing day. Although it took some retuning of my ears to be able to understand the new sound of the southern rednecks. I can now call it home. For the most part, daily life is the same as in Jersey. in my life in March of 2005. I finally decided to come out! You know, accepting the fact that I am gay? That was supposed to happen when I first came to Georgia but through no control of my own, it was put on the back burner so to speak due to other issues in my life at that time. Anyway, life is great now and I thank God for each new day. I have a partner of almost 4 years and things are going pretty well. As time is going so quickly I am looking to the day when I will be eligible to retire, probably in about 5 years or so. I guess the economy will dictate exactly what happens at that time. I would love to live in another country. I have been to Canada, Mexico and Europe and it seems that the quality of life can be so much better outside of the USA. Maybe I am wrong for thinking that? There is so much to see and do yet, and I don't want to miss any of it. I hope you are happy in your life and doing what is right to build for your future. If you are reading this profile, thank you for caring to look at it. I look forward to my Class of '75 Reunion for Edison Vocational & Technical High. It will be fun to see who made it this far and to compare lives and stories from the past. Live everyday like it's your last! Because today will be just a memory when tomorrow arrives. Cheers, Ricky D
